I'm not the biggest fan of this choice either, and agree with your earlier comments that an unknown (or relatively so) actor best fills out the cape or cowl. But I don't hate the choice either. Argo was pretty damn good (and so was The Town), which tells me that Ben works well under self-directing. Alot of these superhero movies rest on the director/script, but even if the director is crap (Sucker Punch, anyone?), we can hope in Ben as crafting the character himself. That being said, the movie won't rest solely on him, Henry Cavill's broad shoulders will also help (his shirtless scene in Man of Steel made me feel like a concave-chested boy-man). My hopes aren't high, which means this movie will either affirm my ego-centric cynicism or I'll be pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteI'm not devastated, truth be told, but I am a little disappointed. I think that Ben Affleck can more than hold his own in front of a camera.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have two major concerns.
1) As discussed in the article, I like the star-making power these roles have, and I'd love to see a fresh face take the role and go on to a newly illustrious career.
2) Ben Affleck is an AMAZING director, and I want him to make more movies. I don't care if he's in movies, but I'd rather see him in his own movies than Zack Snyder's, because his movies run rings around Snyder's.
